Suffolk Sportshall Athletics - Officiating Support

Description of the role:

Sportshall Athletics is an Indoor athletics competition for juniors, which although being competitive has an emphasis on participation and fun.

For many children and young people, Sportshall athletics is often their first experience / introduction to athletics.

In total there are FOUR COMPETITIONS scheduled to take place in 2017:
Saturday 7th October 2017
Saturday 21st October 2017
Saturday 11th November 2017
Saturday 25th November 2017

Volunteer Arrival: 12.00pm report for a 1.00pm start
Estimated Finish: 5.00pm

Volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of sessions, without which it would not be possible to run such sessions.

Type of Role: There will be opportunities to support officials who already have experience with officiating in running, jumping and throwing events

Opportunity Activities: Advice, Information and Support, Local Events, Officials, Sports Development, Teaching, Training and Coaching

What skills are needed?

No specific skills are required, just a willingness to get involved and support others.
Training will be given on the day

What skills will be learned / gained?

Build confidence, knowledge and develop key transferable skills through working as part of a team.
Gain a greater understanding of grassroots athletics, build contacts and general awareness.

Details of mandatory training:

Training / briefing will be covered on arrival. All volunteers will be paired / buddy support at the event.

Extra information:

As the vast majority of people officiating / helping are quite local/from the county they travel at their own expense – apart at times where a specialist official such as a starter travels from outside the county
No other expenses
