Many parents need help, friendship or support during those early years when children are young.
At Home-Start Mid & West Suffolk, volunteers are at the very heart of our service, connecting on a 1:1 basis with families, offering friendship and using their own personal parenting experiences to help families during difficult times.
Mileage for volunteering is paid. If you can spare 2 to 3 hours a week we would love to hear from you.
No formal qualifications are required for this role.
You must have parenting experience e.g. parent, step parent, foster carer, grandparent or have had full time care of children.
Friendliness and a caring attitude are essential skills for our volunteers to have. You will need to have an understanding of the pressures that parents can face and be a good listener. You should have a non-judgemental attitude and be respectful of others.
Our 7 session preparation course covers issues such as:-
Confidentiality, Values and Attitude, Listening and Communication Skills, Meeting the Needs of Children, Supporting Parents and Protecting and safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.
