Description of the role:

We have launched a new Suffolk Pen Pal scheme to enable people to connect with others during the pandemic. We want to help people to meet their needs for community and emotional connection so they can maintain good mental health.
Letters will be sent via Suffolk Mind to ensure safeguarding and confidentiality is adhered to. Stationery and training will be provided.

What skills are needed?

Be able to hand-write letters
Awareness of appropriate language to use and subjects to cover
Reliable
Non judgemental attitude
Awareness of importance of mental wellbeing

What skills will be learned / gained?

Increase knowledge of mental health
Experience of dealing with a range of different people
Being part of a friendly team

DBS Check Required: Yes
Driving Licence Required: No
Mandatory training required for role: Yes
Details of mandatory training:

A half day Mental Well-being workshop and an online Adult Safeguarding course is required for all volunteers. Suffolk Mind provide these.
