Description of the role:

East Coast Community Healthcare CIC (ECCH) is a social enterprise in the East Anglian region providing a range of NHS, community health and social care services predominantly across the easterly region of the Norfolk/Suffolk borders. Voluntary Norfolk is a registered charity (number 1112017) working to build connected, resilient and compassionate communities where people work together to improve lives.

We are looking for volunteers to join our team to provide support to patient and staff across ECCH's teams. Our Volunteers offer their time to provide additional support and companionship to patients, and provide administration and facilities support to ECCH teams freeing up healthcare professionals to provide the specialist care that only they can.

Volunteer role boundaries are clearly defined and volunteer involvement serves to complement not replace the work of paid staff. We expect to have vacancies for:

Patient Support Volunteer
A hospital based role preparing a list of items e.g. medication and/or food into bags for patients being discharged from hospital.

Hospital Support Volunteer
A hospital based role to support front line staff by undertaking the more menial non-clinical aspects of their roles to allow them to focus on patient care e.g. administration, stock room maintenance, ordering of supplies.

Check in and Chat volunteer
This role provides short-term friendship and emotional telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness perhaps following discharge from hospital or as a result of self-isolation. This can be done from your own home.

Specific tasks will be discussed when you speak or meet with the Volunteer Coordinator and will depend on the roles currently available and your interests, skills and experience.

At East Coast Community Healthcare volunteers are a valued part of the team and please be reassured your safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance.

Before you can get started and apply to become a volunteer you must meet the following requirements:
• Volunteers must be 18 or over, and fit and well with no coronavirus symptoms.
• Those in higher-risk groups (including those over 70, those who are pregnant or with underlying medical conditions) will be able to offer support by telephone.
• Patient transport driver volunteers will also require an enhanced DBS check and will receive guidance to do this role safely.

• Are enthusiastic about the impact they can make by being an ECCH volunteer
• Have a friendly and approachable manner
• Demonstrate a willingness to treat all patients, their relatives, visitors, staff and other volunteers with politeness, dignity and respect and offer a non-judgemental attitude
• Are able to follow instructions and guidance from staff and complete tasks within set guidelines
• Inspire trust and confidence by being reliable and punctual
• Commitment to undertaking training required for the role
• An understanding of the importance of confidentiality

What skills will be learned / gained?

• Make a difference to staff and patients of a local healthcare organisation
• Gain experience of the Health and Care sector
• Join a friendly and supportive team and develop team working skills
• Receive training in key topics (safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and more)

Extra information:

Some roles will require a DBS check and some will require that you have access to your own vehicle to use for volunteering.
