Allonsfield Care Farm & Garden Volunteer

Share
Description of the role:

Allonsfield Farm is an exciting new project based in the rural village of Campsea Ashe, Suffolk. We are setting up a care farm and garden for Allonsfield House Nursing Home, a place for residential and dementia care, to provide a therapy resource for the residents at the home. The farm will work to maintain the farm to table process, by which our homegrown fruit and veg as well as meat from the livestock will be used in the homes’ kitchen, providing our residents with excellent quality healthy food.

Currently, we are still in the developmental stages, so the help required will be more garden-based, to help maintain the fruit and veg, and plant more vegetables in the raised beds present. At the moment there is no livestock on site, however, we are working for this to change as quickly as possible, so any help will push forward the arrival of livestock. We have chicks of varying ages, as well as a few breeding groups of native poultry and waterfowl.

Currently, we are still in the developmental stages, so the help required will be more manual labour based work, whilst also helping in the garden to maintain the fruit and veg, and plant more vegetables in the raised beds present. At the moment there is no livestock on site, however, we are working for this to change as quickly as possible, so any help will push forward the arrival of livestock. We have chicks hatching in a weeks time and more small animals arriving in the near future.
